Excerpt

“Rosalind unlocked the front door and opened it. The stars were shining brightly and she looked up at them. When she was younger, she had always enjoyed looking at them and even pretended that they were watching over her, but now, underneath this wretched canopy, she was wasn’t so sure. She began to wonder if coming to Whispering Pines had changed anything, and when she looked up at them again hoping that they would comfort her and whisper absolution in her ears, she was sure now of two things: they didn’t care anymore and it was likely that they never did.”
